As part of a broader effort to achieve financial independence for local governments, the Hanam-style self-sufficient city has created a corporate ecosystem where large corporations, small businesses, and micro-enterprises coexist. At the heart of this plan lies the Knowledge Industry Center Construction Project in the Hanam Misa Self-Sufficient District, located in a quasi-residential area adjacent to housing complexes.

The initial design discussion with the client focused on the layout of support facilities, specifically the dormitory. Between vertical separation and horizontal dispersion, the decision was made to treat the dormitory as part of the residential function and to optimize horizontal dispersion with a dedicated circulation plan. The issue of floor height—typically 4.5m to 4.8m for factories—was addressed by adopting a duplex structure to enable economic integration with the dormitory. This creative solution overcame the challenge of applying such high ceiling heights to residential units.

With an emphasis on harmony with the surrounding environment, the building features a unique architectural image that provides convenience, safety, and a sense of familiarity to tenants and users. Through a distinct formal theme that differentiates it from neighboring knowledge industry centers, the project aims to maximize the developer’s profit. This Knowledge Industry Center in Hanam Misa sets a new standard for self-sufficient cities, offering a practical and innovative space where business and residential life coexist in harmony.
