Located in Cheongju, this large-scale complex of 1,600 units was designed to meet the client’s request for “two separate complexes to feel like one.” To overcome the 20-meter-wide vehicular road and a multi-lane thoroughfare dividing the site, the plan incorporates unified landscaping and circulation to create a natural sense of connectivity.
Bordered by Guryongsan Mountain to the south, Chungbuk National University Hospital to the east, and Chungbuk National University to the north, the site is expected to become Cheongju’s most valuable branded residential area upon completion. By avoiding electromagnetic interference zones, positioning a central plaza, and minimizing undesirable views toward the national security facility in the southeast, the design solves key challenges. Despite the client’s request for a 59m² unit type, the plan maintains openness and visual corridors by incorporating a mix of medium-sized buildings. This reflects the vision that “location is everything” and the pursuit of a pleasant residential environment achieved through persistent dialogue.
